Development of the Rare Disease Helpline – Volunteer Activities
The Student Helpline, supported by dedicated volunteers from the Student Section for Rare Diseases at the University of Zagreb School of Medicine, welcomes new volunteers every academic year. Volunteering on the helpline involves a wide range of activities. In addition to responding to countless medical inquiries, our volunteers have contributed significantly by preparing professional texts on rare diseases, translating various medical materials from foreign languages, and participating in the organization of conferences, training sessions, and public events.
Their support has been especially valuable in organizing activities marking Rare Disease Day each year. In 2023, for example, they hosted an educational street quiz, engaging passersby in testing their knowledge and raising awareness about rare diseases.
Their humanitarian efforts also deserve special mention — such as organizing a charity pub quiz, with all proceeds donated to our partner organization, Debra.
With their knowledge, creativity, and commitment, our student volunteers continuously improve the quality of the Helpline, which serves more than 250,000 people living with rare diseases in Croatia.
The project has been co-funded since September 1, 2024, by the City of Zagreb – Office for Social Protection, Health, War Veterans and Persons with Disabilities.
